I created these Pepsi images using the Android App ''WarpCam''. The watermark is annoying, but what else do you expect for free?

"SELFsame"

This picture is an amalgamation of a couple of my previous pieces. The face is a caricature of myself done way back in 2001 as I graduated from high school. I scanned in the original image and applied a bit of the 'ol Photoshop magic to halftone the image and burn in the shading. I then created the background image by scanning in a geometric painting I did in 2006, selecting the portion i needed and then multiplying it using a tiny UPC barcode brush contrasted against a abstract background of dirty red hues. Finally, I added the "Parental Advisory" logo purely for the fact I thought it would look badass. I'm weird like that, what can I say?

Alice came to a fork in the road.  "Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.

"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

RETRO GAME OF THE WEEK: Section-Z

1:42 AM 0 Comments

      SECTION-Z [NES]
"It is now the 21st Century. High-frequency radio and television communications between Planet Earth and the space-exploring Saturn Space Station blast warnings of approaching invaders, then abruptly cease."
"You shed your earthly identity to become the one remaining astronaut in space. You unite with freedom-fighter Captain Commando to enter the outer regions of space. Concealed in a special solar-energized, jet-propelled supersonic spacesuit, and armed with multi-directional weaponry, you depart Earth's surface on a death-defying mission."
"You and Captain Commando must maneuver safely through four levels of adventurous battle scenes, penetrating the defenses established by the Space Soldiers of Balangool. You are challenged as you fight through Sections A to Section Z - where "L-Brain", Balangool's Master Control, programs domination of the universe."
"Your goal: penetrate Section Z, destroy L-Brain Master Control, defeat the evil Space Soliders of Balangool, and save Planet Earth."
    SectionZFlyer.png
"L-Brain, Master Control of Balangool, secured in Section Z of Fortress Balangool, headquarters of this brutal enemy force, transmits communiqués throughout the universe. Balangool Space Soldiers receive instructions from L-Brain while engaged in interplanetary invasions. Their goal is to conquer the universe."
"Balangool Captains are stationed at each stage, guarding giant super powered transmitters. Strong, red barriers surround two transmitters found at Stage One. To clear these red barriers you must destroy the Enemy Generator supplying power to the barriers. Should you successfully eliminate the generator, proceed to eradicate the Balangool Captain. For only then can you proceed to another Stage."
"As you progress, increase your supply of weapons and energy. Without them, you cannot reach Section Z to bring L-Brain Master Control to extinction, heroically saving Planet Earth."  [via Capcom Wiki]

That's straight from Capcom, folks. That's how the "story" in a game was conveyed in those days. I played this game countless times in my youth and NEVER knew what it was about until recently.
I'm not gonna lie and say I beat this game. I never have. But I will still fire it up and give it another shot every once in awhile. And to this day I still have a blast trying. I think that's really one  of the highest praises I can give a game.

Here's a gameplay video by NEStalgia to jog your sense memory:

      Touchscreen Laptops? Yes, Please!

      11:41 PM , 0 Comments

With all the hullabaloo these days about tablets and the enormous runaway success of the iPad, it has been predicted by many tech writers that the era of the PC and/or laptop will be over soon. I don't necessarily see it that way. I read an interesting article about Intel recently that has shed a bit more light on what is the logical third (fourth?) option. This option is the adoption of a seemingly hybrid "Touchscreen Laptop". Here's what I feel is going to eventually happen to get us there...

While a majority of people are currently enamored by their new wunderkind devices to the neglect of their laptops/PC's, there is a growing subset of people (at least from my personal observations) who will always think of a tablet as a secondary device. There are many reasons a person could believe such a reasonable thing, but the main argument will always come down to RAW POWER and PRICE.

      RAW POWER
While dual and quad-core chips are just now coming into the tablet marketplace, they have been pretty much standard on mid-to-high range laptops for a while now. Tablets are also just starting to flex their muscles in the graphical processing power department, but they are constantly one-upped by the next "powerhouse" tablet to come out, which means they are quickly outdated.

Meanwhile, upgrading graphics on a PC or a laptop is a simple operation. As far as RAM and GHz goes [and I'll use an iPad (3) as an example] a tablet just can't compete. The newest iteration of the iPad, which is what some consider to be "best" tablet out right now, has only a scant 1GB of RAM and 1Ghz of processing power. Compare that to laptops where 3.3GHz+ is considered a good rating and RAM is available up to 8GB on most laptops. Those RAM numbers multiply even more if you bring home PC's into the mix. Comparing Laptops/PC's and tablets is really like comparing Excalibur to a pocketknife

      PRICE
Simple enough premise. A nice tablet is the equivalent in price to a nice mid-range laptop. A laptop is cheaply upgradable. A Tablet is not upgradable and only REPLACEABLE. Eventually people will tire of replacing these devices every year, especially in a down economy as inflation slowly envelopes us all.

I think that with the imminent release of Windows 8, a touchscreen heavy front end OS for PC and tablets with all the usual Windows bells and whistles (compatiblity, no app stores, freedom!) available as well, the laptop and tablet will combine into a new unholy conglomeration that will truly make the next leap in tech possible. I personally can't wait for this!

Here's a link to the original article over at Tom's Hardware that inspired this rant (and shows a hopeful glimpse into this proposed future):

      World's Finest. Arkham City Style.

I was pretty pleased with how this turned out. After doing a "Batman" photoshoot in an attempt to emulate the style of the B&W "Arkham City" advertisements and promos, I simply couldn't resist trying to create the same feel with DC Comic's true "Dynamic Duo"
(Screw Robin. Except for Tim Drake. He's a badass.)

The only issue I really had was choosing which Superman figure to use for the shoot. I ultimately went the the "Last Son" version of the character for the shoot as it played up Supe's physical stature and looked right at home with my Neal Adams Batman figure. There are alternate versions as well that include tests with other various Supermen.

Maybe I'll post em up at SPYDER ACIDBURN's Action Figure Photography Blog eventually...

      AVENGERS TRAILERS ASSEMBLE!

      2:59 AM , 0 Comments

With the Avengers movie just weeks away now, I thought I'd "ASSEMBLE" all the trailers for the movie together so you all can get as psyched as I am.

If Marvel can truly pull off such an ambitious film, then they will have paved the way for the rest of the Marvel Universe to start coming out of the woodwork. Marvel now has an entire film universe into which they can frame subsequent Marvel movies. If magic exists in a Thor movie, then it's a lot easier to introduce a character like Doctor Strange or Morbius. If the technology is shown in a Iron Man movie, then it would be easier to believe in M.O.D.O.K., A.I.M., the Vision, Ultron and countless others.

Heaven help DC Comics/Universal's movie aspirations if Marvel/Disney ever regains the film rights to Spider-Man/X-Men/Fantastic Four.

If you don't want to see "The Avengers" after watching these clips, then you must be a Norse God hellbent on destruction!

First up is the initial teaser trailer. Nothing more than a Samuel L. Jackson voice-over and a title graphic...

Next up is "Official Trailer #1" (As seen during the Superbowl)

After that we've got "Official Trailer #2"

And lastly, we've got the "Head Count" Trailer

As an added bonus, here's a behind the scenes video regarding the creation of the Marvel film universe, courtesy of Norton Antivirus.

      POTD [04-04-12]

      1:11 AM 0 Comments

Today, for your viewing pleasure I present not one, but three, pieces for you as my POTD.
These are a few Tilt-Shift images I created while on my honeymoon in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

*The top image is of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk looking from the outermost pier into the boardwalk itself.

*The middle image is the view from our suite at the Caravelle Resort.

*The bottom image is from a day trip we made to Charleston.
If I recall correctly the view is from "Old" Charleston looking across the bay to "New" Charleston.
